BODY AND SOUL FAMILY DAYCARE
I have 30+ years of experience in caring for children
(including raising 5 of my own). I participate in on-going
professional training, the Child Care Food Program, am
registered with the state and am certified in the Child Net program.
My goal is to provide a loving extension to your own home
where your child will be nurtured physically, emotionally,
mentally, and spiritually.
I provide an environment and age-appropriate activities
conducive to learning and developmental growth.
Positive, loving interactions between the children and myself,
and opportunities to learn the social skills of cooperation and
sharing are all part of the atmosphere.
My faith is an integral part of my life and will be reflected
(I hope) in all I do.
I also have a special interest in and commitment to serving
nutritious meals, using natural ingredients and foods.
Hence, my selection of the name: Body and Soul.
I would love to welcome your child to my home!

COMMENTS FROM PARENTS
If you want the next best thing to your own family, you want family daycare! You also want someone with lots of experience with children! Here are comments from parents I currently work with and some I have worked with in the past:
Hilda is our neighbor and our kids' daycare provider. Our boys love her and so do we! Our oldest son has been at Hilda's since he was 18 months old and our youngest since he was 3 months old. (They are now 4 ½ and 2) Hilda's daycare is wonderful and advantageous for many reasons. Most importantly because of Hilda's personality- very warm, loving and patient. She really enjoys children.
Another advantage is that this daycare is in her home, a loving and
nurturing atmosphere as opposed to a large facility with a revolving number of care givers.
The kids get to play outside quite a bit, weather permitting. Her back yard is a child's paradise with a swing set, sandbox, teeter-totter, bikes, trikes, scooters, etc. My kids love to play at Hilda's and often don't want to leave at the end of the day! I like knowing that the kids are having fun and getting some fresh air while I'm at work.
Hilda serves the kids very nutritious meals and snacks. She offers the kids fresh fruits and veggies and a varied menu that doesn't include many processed foods. As a result, my kids are open to trying new foods and enjoy more fruits, veggies and `real' food than they otherwise might have.
Hilda offers a loving daycare but also teaches the kids good manners and discipline. As a parent I really appreciate this. The kids learn to say “please” and “thank you” and ask to be excused from the table.
Her form of discipline is timeouts and the kids really behave for her. She also has a comforting routine for them so they know what to expect, which keeps the kids calm, happy and content.
Hilda is a mentor for me as a mother. I have asked her advice many times and it's always right on, from sleeping through the night strategies, potty training tips, discipline, expectations and so on.
I would highly recommend Hilda's daycare for anyone looking for a warm, loving home environment for their children.

Hilda has cared for both of my girls a total of about 4 years. The most remarkable thing about Hilda is that she never raises her voice with the kids. The children listen to her because they know without a doubt they
will end up sitting on the timeout bench if they don't!
The atmosphere is happy, peaceful and relaxed. The shady backyard has two fun swingsets as well as natural bark, sand, sticks, mud and grass to play on/with. The kids spend a lot of time either in the backyard or on the front porch in the fresh air.
The food is always healthy (not too much sugar or artificial ingredients) yet kid-friendly. Somehow even the vegetables get eaten!
One more thing. Hilda accepted my 9 month old baby even though she was having seizures and on medication. She provided a lot of relief and moral support for our family when we needed it most.

Hilda Ostby provided day care services for my four children from the early to mid-'90's. As a mother, one of the hardest things in the world is finding good day care but I always felt reassured leaving my kids
with Hilda.
I appreciated her structure, support, even-temperament, kind way of communicating, faith-based humility and genuine sense of goodness.
My kids liked being at Hilda's and they still speak fondly of activities, things they learned and relationships they developed as a result of Hilda's care.
As a matter of fact, that's what it all boils down to - Hilda truly cares. She loves kids and they love her. And she is appreciated to this day by all 5 Russos! Call any of us if more information is needed at

My daughter's first experience with daycare was with Hilda and she transitioned beautifully.
Hilda's warmth and the little rituals she incorporates into the daily schedule helped my toddler to feel comfortable right away (eg. the kids get a few mini-marshmallows if they finish their lunch).
I also really value the nutritious, organic meals Hilda provides. I know my child is safe and happy and well-cared for with Hilda. Julie Husband
Both of my children attended Body and Soul Daycare from the time they were 6 weeks old until they entered school. Hilda provides a safe, caring, and comfortable home childcare center. She provides quality snacks and meals as well as structured and supervised playtimes.

Hilda is very caring person. She truly cares about each child's well being. Her daycare is definitely a nurturing place for a child of any age! Alana Sankey

POLICIES
Policies
Hours: 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday
Fees: I charge a weekly rate of _____, based on the hours your child is in my care, with a minimum of 25 hours per week for part-time. (Occasionally if I have openings I will take a child for less than 25 hours a week on a regular basis. If so, the rates will be $3.50 an hour and there will be no personal days given.) Please indicate the hours you would like me to be available to care for your child: ______to______ Rates are $3.10 an hour full-time (2 and over), $3.35 an hour part-time children and full-time infants to 2 years, and $3.65 an hour for drop-ins or part-time infants (under 36 hrs.)
Personal days: I will allow ____ personal days per contract year, which can be used for absences due to illness, vacations, visits to grandparents, etc. I prefer personal days not be used on a regular paid holiday. (7 personal days for full-time, 5 for part-time - at least 30 hours per week - and 0 for regular drop-ins). This is for one full calendar year. If you are a teacher and your child is gone for the summer I don't charge for those days, but you will not be allowed any other personal days during the school year.
Note of explanation: I am allowed to care for a limited number of children, and when I agree to take your child, I commit a space to you. That is why I ask you to commit to paying me for that space. It is difficult to fill the occasional empty spot. Sometimes a child has gone to pre-school from my home for a few hours a week. I am still paid for that time.
Holidays: I will be paid for holidays that fall during a work week, unless you are not paid for the holiday. If that is the case, you can use a personal day if you wish. Holidays would be any day when school is not in session and the post office isn't open. I will also take a paid holiday on my birthday, June 3. If that falls on a weekend I will take the Monday before or Friday after.
Vacations: You do not need to pay me while I am on vacation. I will notify you 2 weeks in advance, or more. Typically, my vacations will fall sometime during the Christmas holidays, at Spring Break, and a week or 2 in summer. Please give 2 weeks notice of your vacations as well. Again, you may use
personal days for your vacations.
Sickness: If your child has a fever, is vomiting, has diarrhea or other contagious illness (other than a mild cold) I will not be able to care for him/her out of consideration for my other children. If an illness develops while your child is in my care, I will notify you.
Helpful hint: Consider having your child's immunizations done on a Friday, as fever and fussiness can often follow. Note: To meet state registration requirements, I must have on file a record of your child's immunizations and a current physical form.
Emergencies: In case of an emergency I will always try to contact you or your emergency contact person first, but if necessary I will dial 911 to summon an ambulance.
Discipline: I use a time-out when it is necessary to discipline a child. We also discuss the situation and apply the "I'm sorry - I forgive you" approach. If something else is more effective with your child, please inform me.
Clothing: Please supply an extra set of clothing, bibs, and plenty of diapers, wipes and ointment if your child uses them. We are often outside, so be sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather.
Meals: I participate in the Child Care Food Program and submit monthly menus of nutritious meals and snacks. These are available for you to see at any time. I serve breakfast, lunch and a PM snack daily, which your child will receive depending on their arrival/departure time. Meal times can vary depending on the schedule of the majority of the children in my care, so please inform me of your needs. Also, please inform me if your child has any special dietary restrictions.
Note about infants: If your child is an infant or too young to be able to eat the foods served (usually up to about 1 year), please supply whatever you want your child to eat.
Quiet time/rest time: We will have a quiet time or rest time each day after lunch, usually between 1 and 3. This is my only break in a 10-hour day and it keeps us all happy.
I am required to inform you that I am a Mandatory Abuse Reporter, which means that I am required by law to report any suspected instance of child abuse.
I consider it a great privilege to care for your child!
Open parent-provider communication is an essential ingredient in ensuring a positive relationship between us, so please feel free to discuss with me any questions or concerns you may have at any time.
